More Greek Islands: Rhodes

Rhodes was a pretty cool place, with the (medieval) city tucked away inside a fortress wall.

Walking up cobbled streets past the touristic shopping strip, I chanced upon a mosque and also Moslem library, which was housed in a separate building. Both were interesting tributes to architectural and cultural diversity, along with expected Greek ruins.

As a traveller, I look for free wifi at every opportunity, and don’t mind spending a few euros on a beer or two and something to eat to get it. I stumbled on a lovely little taverna, tucked away from the tourist throngs, had a couple of beers and caught up on emails, Facebook, Twitter and my blog. I chatted to a couple of other Aussies there who noticed my accent, and another Aussie sitting on the pier, identified by his Rose Tattoo t-shirt.

Before I knew it, it was time to head back to the ship. But what a pleasant way to spend an afternoon!
