Our tour guide, Osman – nicknamed Ocky – had some endearing turns of phrase. My seat buddy Renee and I cackled with glee over how delightful Ocky’s English was (and he had excellent English, by the way). I’ve listed them below, but it’s probably a case of you had to be there to appreciate how lovely it was, particularly with his Slovenian nature:
Touristica/touristically
Communistic
Agriculturing
Vineyarding
Comfortable stop (aka comfort stop – one of our favourites)
Computer (aka calculator)
(Castle is) under UNESCO protection
Very known
Garbage dumpster
Make a break
Terroristic
Combinated
Parks of nature
Misleaded
Rooming list
Resources of salt, iron ore etc.
Make a photo picture
Machine of the bus (about Jani our driver)
Our favorite one was “you will see it” as in “we will stop at the market, there are lots of different things… you will see it”.
And often his statements were accompanied by an “of course”, which was also just so charming.
