We drove from Napflio to Sparta through an impressive mountain range. Sparta is nestled in the Evrotas valley, and up on one of the peaks is Mystra, which I knew nothing about.
The climb up to the castle was quite steep, and up along an ancient stone path. My effort was rewarded by a breath-taking view of the mountains, Sparta and surrounds. Suffice it to say I could see for a gazillion miles.
My walk down to the coach took me along the same stone path, past a little church, and a monastery that was being restored, right down to a little museum tucked away at the bottom.
I must say: the Greeks really know how to do a ruin!
