One episode of Seinfeld that anyone who’s a fan loves is The Soup Nazi, with it’s infamous “No Soup for you!” battle cry.
While on the way to Antalya, we experienced a Turkish version, who we dubbed The Restaurant Nazi.
As part of its tour offerings, Globus runs optional tours. This particular one was to (more) Roman ruins and a number of us (half the tour actually!) opted out. The alternative for us was a lunch at a restaurant while the other passengers went off on their tour.
As soon as we were seated in the restaurant, the owner came to take our order. “Fish! Chicken! Buffet! Drink!” were the menu choices, and he uttered this in such a way that we all looked at each other and said in unison: “The Soup Nazi!”.
The restaurant looked tired and in need of a good scrubbing. I decided on the chicken, after contemplating which dish was the least likely to give me salmonella, and taking into account the number of flies buzzing around the buffet.
When my chicken was served, I tasted it tentatively. But you know what? It was one of the best darn chicken dishes I ate in Turkey. And not a hint of salmonella.
